On September 4, the Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu Provincial Project Management Board for Transportation and Agricultural Specialization coordinated with contractors, consultants, and supervisors to hold the First Cable-Stayed Cable Tensioning Ceremony at Pier T38 of the Phước An Bridge Project (Phú Mỹ Ward, Ho Chi Minh City).

Attendees included Mr. Nguyễn Văn Thọ, Standing Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, representatives of the project’s investor, and the construction contractors. The Phước An Bridge Project is a key transportation infrastructure project, directly connecting the Cái Mép - Thị Vải area (Ho Chi Minh City) with the Bến Lức - Long Thành Expressway (Đồng Nai). The project contributes to reducing pressure on National Highway 51, completing the national logistics system, and promoting regional economic development.

The Phước An Bridge Project has a total length of more than 4.7 km, including 3.5 km of main bridge, 247 m of route approach road, approximately 617 m of connecting road to the Phước An Port access road, and completion of the interchange connecting to the road leading to Phước An Port. The main bridge is designed with a width of 27 m, while the approach bridges are 23.5 m wide, with a scale of 6 lanes — 4 motor vehicle lanes and 2 mixed lanes — meeting a design speed of 70 km/h. The structure ensures a navigational clearance for vessels up to 30,000 DWT, with a 135 m wide clearance and a vertical clearance of 55 m, complying with international navigation standards.

The project has a total investment capital of 4,877 billion VND from the central government budget and the former Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu provincial budget, with an implementation period from 2022 to 2027.
Workers are carrying out the first cable-stayed cable tensioning on the bridge. |

The project is divided into 5 main construction packages, in which: Package No. 38 (construction of the approach bridge from the starting point to piers T36 and T37 within the former Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu area) has achieved about 64% progress; Package No. 39 (construction of the main bridge from T37 to T40, including waterway traffic regulation) has reached nearly 62% of construction value; Packages No. 40 and 41 on the Đồng Nai side have currently reached 3.5% and 0.45%, respectively. |
 |
Trung Nam Construction and Installation JSC stated that together with Trung Chính Trading and Construction Co., Ltd., they are responsible for constructing the main cable-stayed bridge section.
As of July 2025, the package has completed: Bored pile drilling; Foundations and piers; 6/12 segments of pier T37 and 14/15 tower segments of the main pier T38 |

Mr. Nguyễn Văn Trình, Director of the Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu Provincial Project Management Board for Transportation and Agricultural Specialization, said this is the extradosed bridge with the largest span in Asia, with a navigational clearance of 55 m, span-to-span width of 250 m, sufficient for 30,000-ton vessels to pass through. This is also the bridge with the highest navigational clearance in Vietnam. |
Standing Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Nguyễn Văn Thọ acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts of the investor and construction units in recent times. The first cable-stayed cable tensioning marks an important milestone in the project’s construction process. This demonstrates the determination to accelerate progress, ensure safety and construction quality, and contribute to the early completion of the project.
According to the Standing Vice Chairman, the project is planned to be completed in 2027. However, with the current pace, by the end of 2026 at the latest, the project will be technically open to traffic, so it can be put into use as soon as possible.
