TRUNG NAM WIND POWER PLANT CAPACITY INCREASED TO OVER 150 MW

Trung Nam Wind Power Plant was approved by the Prime Minister to increase its capacity to 151.95 MW.

Specifically, on March 10, 2020, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung signed approval to adjust the capacity of the Trung Nam Wind Power Plant project—previously approved for addition to the Adjusted Power Master Plan VII—from 105.75 MW to 151.95 MW. The schedule for integrating the additional capacity will be synchronized with the progress of the Thuan Nam 500kV Substation and 500kV, 220kV transmission lines pursuant to Official Dispatch No. 70/TTg-CN dated January 9, 2020 by the Prime Minister.

According to this dispatch, the Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Industry and Trade to take responsibility for the proposed capacity adjustment, ensuring no grid overload occurs in the region and guiding execution to ensure overall efficiency.

Located in Loi Hai and Bac Phong communes, Thuan Bac district, Ninh Thuan province, Trung Nam Wind Power Plant commenced construction in August 2016 with a total capacity of 151.95 MW, operating for 2,785 hours per year, with an expected output of 423 million kWh annually.

Having completed Phase 1 operation, Trung Nam Wind Power Plant features 17 wind turbine towers with a capacity of 39.95 MW, generating 110 million kWh per year. Phase 2 will add 16 turbine towers with a capacity of 64 MW, generating 179 million kWh per year, targeted for completion in Q2/2020. Phase 3 will add 12 turbine towers with a capacity of 48 MW, generating 134 million kWh per year, scheduled for completion in November 2021.

ENERCON gearless wind turbines at Trung Nam Wind Power Plant - Trungnam Group

Trung Nam Wind Power Plant utilizes gearless, automatic wind-tracking turbine technology provided by ENERCON—a leading European wind power equipment manufacturer based in Germany. With gearless turbine technology, the wind towers at Trung Nam Wind Power Plant can operate smoothly at wind speeds starting at just 2.5 m/s. This capability sets a notable benchmark among renewable energy projects in Vietnam as of May 2019. Furthermore, eliminating the gearbox reduces mechanical friction and wear, minimizing system maintenance, lowering maintenance costs, and maximizing operational uptime.
