The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has issued an official directive instructing relevant local districts and agencies to urgently hand over construction sites and provide operational support to help the investor accelerate construction on Phase 1 of the project "Tidal Flood Control in Ho Chi Minh City Considering Climate Change Factors", aiming for project completion within 2020 as planned.
According to Trung Nam BT 1547 Co., Ltd., investor of Phase 1 of the project "Tidal Flood Control in Ho Chi Minh City Considering Climate Change Factors" (referred to as the tidal prevention project), overall construction progress has reached 78%. However, the project currently faces difficulties and bottlenecks regarding site clearance handover to accelerate construction across remaining work items.

To resolve obstacles related to the tidal prevention project, the HCMC People's Committee recently issued a directive requesting the Binh Chanh District People's Committee to conclusively settle compensation and resettlement procedures to deliver construction land prior to March 15, 2020.
Additionally, the Municipal People's Committee instructed Saigon Port Joint Stock Company to hand over two mooring berths at the Tan Thuan sluice gate site to Trung Nam BT 1547 Co., Ltd. before March 20, 2020, for construction deployment. Concurrently, the Department of Transportation was tasked with evaluating impacts on inland waterway navigation upon project completion to ensure maritime safety prior to commercial operations.
Furthermore, the HCMC People's Committee requested Southern Aviation Petroleum Terminal Joint Stock Company to temporarily suspend jetty construction at locations affecting Dyke Section No. 2 of the project.

Information from the project investor indicates that approximately 73 households and 2 affected entities have yet to complete site handovers, including 4 remaining households in Binh Chanh district. Out of 256 affected households and organizations, 181 have successfully handed over land for construction. If site clearance is resolved thoroughly and delivered promptly to contractors, the project will maintain its progress schedule and target completion prior to October 2020.
Once fully operational, the tidal control infrastructure will mitigate tidal flooding and proactively adapt to climate change across an area of 570 km² serving 6.5 million residents along the right bank of the Saigon River and central Ho Chi Minh City.
