On the afternoon of September 29, 2020, in Quan The hamlet, Phuoc Minh commune, Thuan Nam district, Ninh Thuan province, Trungnam Group executed the energization of the 220/500kV Substation and Transmission Line – 220/500kV Substation and Transmission Line Project integrated with the 450 MW Trung Nam Thuan Nam Solar Power Plant.
The substation houses 02 500 kV / 900 MVA transformers designed and manufactured by SIEMENS – the world's leading electrical equipment corporation from Germany. Delivering a total capacity of 1,800 MVA, the two transformers possess sufficient capacity to supply power to 02 provinces/cities. The 900 MVA transformer rating represents the largest capacity class currently produced in most countries worldwide. Serving as the "heart" of renewable energy projects, these vital components step voltage up or down to ensure alignment with grid demand. Meanwhile, the 500kV and 220kV transmission line extends over 17 km from Phuoc Minh commune, Thuan Nam district, Ninh Thuan province to Vinh Tan commune, Tuy Phong district, Binh Thuan province.
Technical Specifications of the 500 kV / 900 MVA Transformer:
In addition to generating over 1 billion kWh – equivalent to 1 TWh of electricity – from renewable sources annually (1.2 billion kWh in its first year), the 220/500kV Substation and Transmission Line integrated with the 450 MW Trung Nam Thuan Nam Solar Power Plant will play a vital role in relieving grid capacity curtailment across Ninh Thuan and the South Central Coast.
Completing and commissioning the 220/500kV Substation and Transmission Line integrated with the 450 MW Trung Nam Thuan Nam Solar Power Plant carries several key milestones:
1. Helps realize Government Resolution 115 to transform Ninh Thuan into the national renewable energy hub.
2. Contributes significantly to relieving capacity curtailment for renewable energy plants across Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan, preventing power cutbacks that cause trillions of VND in annual losses, improving the provincial investment environment, and resolving national power shortages.
3. Adds over 1 billion kWh annually to the national grid, driving renewable energy development to replace non-renewable power sources and safeguard the environment.
4. Implements Politburo Resolution 55 by advancing renewable energy growth and encouraging private investment in power generation and transmission infrastructure.
The 220/500kV Substation and Transmission Line project, integrated with the 450 MW Trung Nam Thuan Nam Solar Power Plant, represents an urgent strategic initiative that supports the power transmission system of Ninh Thuan province, the Central Coastal region, and national transmission infrastructure.
